CUSD Scholars Win Multiple Awards at Drone Competitions

Compton Unified School District scholars showcased their impressive STEM skills recently, competing in drone competitions across Southern California and earning multiple awards for coding, piloting, teamwork, and communication.

On Saturday, March 14, CUSD scholars traveled to competitions in Los Angeles and Corona, where they demonstrated advanced drone piloting and coding abilities while working together to complete challenging missions.

At the Corona Auburndale Intermediate 2nd Annual Aerial Drone Competition (ADC) event, several Compton Unified teams earned top honors. Tibby's Happiness Peak team won the Coding Award and also placed fourth in the Skills competition. Anderson Elementary School’s Flying Eagles team earned the Airmanship Award, recognizing their strong piloting performance.

Scholars from King Elementary School also delivered an impressive showing. The Sky Strikers team earned second place in both the Skills and Teamwork competitions, while the Drone Dominators team placed third in Teamwork.

At the Los Angeles Engineer Factory ADC event, more Compton Unified teams added to the district’s success. Clinton Elementary School’s Pink Lemonade team won the Communications Mission Champion award, highlighting their strong presentation and mission planning skills. Whaley Middle School’s Cobra Kai Warriors team earned third place in the Skills competition.

The competitions challenged scholars to combine technical knowledge with teamwork, requiring them to code flight paths, pilot drones through complex courses, and communicate their strategies effectively.

The strong results across multiple events highlight the continued growth of STEM education in Compton Unified, where scholars are gaining hands-on experience in coding, engineering, and emerging technologies that prepare them for future careers.
