The California Distinguished Schools Program, established in 1985, is one of the state’s highest recognitions for public schools. According to Tony Thurmond, the program celebrates schools that are achieving strong outcomes for students and demonstrating innovation and dedication in the classroom.

Compton Early College High School
The 2026 recognition highlights middle and high schools that have demonstrated strong academic outcomes based on data from the California School Dashboard, including performance indicators such as graduation rates, college and career readiness, and progress among historically underserved student groups.

Davis Middle School
In total, 408 middle and high schools across California received the 2026 designation. Schools must meet strict criteria to qualify, including strong academic performance and high participation rates in statewide assessments.

Dominguez High School
The honored schools will be recognized during a statewide celebration on April 24, 2026, at the Disneyland Hotel in Anaheim.
