Compton Success Profiles: Krystie Ramirez, Centennial High School

Hard work, perseverance, and a passion for learning have paved the way for Krystie Ramirez as she begins an exciting new chapter. The Centennial High School Class of 2026 graduate will attend the University of California, Merced this fall, where she plans to major in Biochemistry.
During her time at Centennial, Krystie immersed herself in campus life, participating in the marching band, Math Club, volleyball, and softball. She credits Band Director Manuel Castaneda for inspiring her through music and leadership, while World History teacher Mr. Higgins encouraged her to challenge herself academically and pursue her goals with confidence.
Krystie says one of the biggest lessons she learned in high school was the value of giving her best effort every day. Her advice to incoming scholars is straightforward: "Don't slack off." She believes staying focused and working hard can make all the difference in achieving future success.
One of Krystie's favorite memories of Centennial is being surrounded by classmates who challenged and inspired one another. Watching her peers grow into confident young adults, each preparing for their own futures, has been one of the most meaningful parts of her high school experience.
As an immigrant from El Salvador, Krystie is determined to make the most of the educational opportunities available to her. She hopes earning a college degree will not only help her achieve her dreams but also inspire future generations of her family to pursue higher education.
