Meet Hasaan Jackson, a proud graduate of the Compton Early College High School Class of 2026. This fall, he will begin an exciting new chapter at Sacramento State, where he plans to major in Journalism.
Hasaan's passion for journalism began with a simple but meaningful prediction from his grandmother, who always told him she could see him in the news one day. Combined with his love of sports, that encouragement inspired him to pursue a future in sports journalism and broadcasting.
While attending Compton Early College High School, Hasaan made his mark both on and off the field. He was a co-founder of the school's football program and proudly served as team captain for all three seasons, helping establish a culture of leadership and commitment. He also competed on the track and field team in the shot put, demonstrating his dedication as a student-athlete.
One of the people who had the greatest impact on Hasaan's journey was Head Football Coach Steven Kelly. Through Coach Kelly's mentorship, inspiration, and unwavering dedication, Hasaan learned valuable lessons about leadership, perseverance, and the importance of giving your best every day.
Looking back, Hasaan would tell his younger self to stay committed from the very beginning. He believes that maintaining focus and discipline opens doors to even greater opportunities and encourages younger scholars to stay dedicated to their goals.
For Hasaan, education is about much more than earning a diploma. He believes school prepares students for the real world by building character, developing skills, and proving that they can succeed at any level. As he begins his college journey, he looks forward to sharing stories, covering sports, and inspiring others through journalism.
