60 CUSD Scholars Attend Males Achieving Success Conference

Media Release

Sixty scholars from Compton Academy of Technology and Innovation (C-Tech), Compton High School, and Centennial High School recently participated in the 9th Annual Males Achieving Success (MAS) Conference at Fullerton College—an impactful experience designed to help young men envision, plan, and actively pursue their futures.

While classrooms provide essential academic instruction, experiences like the MAS Conference offer scholars opportunities to develop critical life skills that are not always addressed in traditional coursework.

Through interactive seminars and meaningful discussions, scholars explored career pathway planning, financial literacy, discovering personal passion and purpose, and the importance of giving back to their communities. These lessons equip scholars with real-world knowledge that supports long-term success in college, careers, and life.

The conference created a space for scholars to reflect on their goals, ask questions, and gain insight into the steps needed to achieve them. By learning directly from professionals and community leaders, scholars were able to connect classroom learning to real-life applications, building confidence and motivation as they plan their next steps beyond high school.

A highlight of the day was a powerful keynote address from Dr. Keith Curry, President of Compton College. Dr. Curry delivered an inspiring message that encouraged scholars to persevere through challenges, remain focused on their goals, and recognize their responsibility to uplift and serve their communities. He emphasized that success is not defined solely by personal achievement, but by the positive impact individuals have on others.

Opportunities like the MAS Conference reflect Compton Unified School District’s commitment to educating the whole child. By exposing scholars to mentorship, leadership development, and practical life skills, the district continues to empower young men with the tools, confidence, and vision needed to succeed both inside and outside the classroom.
