50 CUSD EL Scholars Tour Cal State Fullerton

Media Release

Compton Unified School District continues to strengthen its college-going culture by providing scholars with meaningful opportunities to explore higher education. This week, 50 Long-Term English Learner (EL) scholars from Compton High School and Dominguez High School, representing grades 9 through 12, visited the California State University, Fullerton campus.

During the visit, scholars toured the university grounds and experienced what life on a college campus can look like. Students also participated in an informational presentation that covered key topics such as college admissions requirements, financial aid opportunities, and potential career pathways, helping them better understand the steps needed to pursue a postsecondary education.

College tours like this are a vital part of Compton Unified’s commitment to preparing scholars for life after high school. By conducting multiple college visits throughout the school year, the District ensures students are exposed early and often to higher education environments. These experiences help scholars envision themselves in college, build confidence, and reinforce the belief that college is an achievable and attainable goal.

These efforts are reflected in Compton Unified’s strong student outcomes. The District now boasts a 94% graduation rate and a 95% college acceptance rate, demonstrating the impact of intentional college and career readiness programming across CUSD.

Through hands-on experiences, targeted support, and a clear focus on student success, Compton Unified continues to empower scholars with the knowledge, inspiration, and opportunities needed to thrive in college, career, and beyond.
