300 CUSD Scholars Attend Compton Goes To College HBCU Conference
300 scholars from Centennial High School, Compton High School, Compton Early College High School, and Dominguez High School stepped boldly into their futures at the CUSD Compton Goes To College HBCU Conference, hosted at Charles R. Drew University of Medicine and Science.
By the end of the day, scholars earned 83 on-the-spot college acceptances and an incredible $1.5 million in scholarships — life-changing opportunities made possible in just a few powerful hours.

In addition to a dynamic HBCU College Fair featuring representatives from more than 20 Historically Black Colleges and Universities, students were able to submit applications on the spot and connect directly with admissions teams. More than 30 panelists also led College & Career workshops, sharing their professional journeys and opening scholars’ eyes to a wide range of career pathways.

Hosted by CUSD’s College and Career Readiness Department in partnership with Charles Drew University, the conference continues to expand access and opportunity — bringing colleges directly to our scholars and breaking down barriers in the application and financial aid process.

With a 94% graduation rate and 95% college acceptance rate in 2025, Compton Unified continues to build a powerful college-going culture. The District’s College & Career Indicator earned the #1 ranking in LA County and #1 statewide among similar districts, further demonstrating our commitment to excellence.

CUSD’s flagship college access initiative, Compton Goes to College!, was recently honored with the 2024 Golden Bell Award by the California School Boards Association, recognizing its transformative impact on college readiness and equity in the Compton community.

And this is what Compton Unified delivers.
