Hub City League Debuts with Inaugural Football Media Day

The Compton Unified School District officially ushered in a new era of high school athletics recently with its first-ever Hub City League Football Media Day, bringing together scholar-athletes, coaches, administrators and community leaders from the league's five member schools to celebrate the start of the inaugural season.
Held at the Compton High School Fieldhouse, the event featured representatives from Cabrillo High School, Centennial High School, Compton High School, Compton Early College High School and Dominguez High School. Boys football and girls flag football scholar-athletes proudly represented their schools alongside principals, athletic directors, coaches and cheerleaders, highlighting the excitement surrounding the launch of the new league.

The Compton High School Band opened the event with an energetic performance that set the tone for the morning as media members from throughout the region gathered to cover this historic milestone.

Compton Unified Board President Micah Ali welcomed attendees by recognizing the significance of the new partnership between Compton Unified School District and Long Beach Unified School District.

"Today, we celebrate the vision, collaboration and leadership that made this league possible. I have no doubt the Hub City League will become one of the premier high school athletic leagues in Southern California and a lasting source of pride for the residents of both Compton and Long Beach," Ali said.

Board Vice President Michael Hooper and Board Members Satra Zurita, Sandra Moss and Tana McCoy also welcomed attendees, celebrating the return of meaningful rivalries, the importance of community support, and the opportunities the Hub City League will create for scholar-athletes. Compton Unified Superintendent Dr. Darin Brawley reinforced the district's commitment to developing leadership, teamwork and excellence through athletics.

Following opening remarks, each school was introduced as principals recognized their athletic directors, coaches and scholar-athletes. Cheerleaders helped create a vibrant atmosphere as each school was welcomed, followed by a commemorative group photo featuring all participants.

The event concluded with a moderated media question-and-answer session before members of the press had an opportunity to conduct one-on-one interviews with scholar-athletes, coaches, administrators and district leadership.

The Hub City League brings together four Compton Unified high schools and Cabrillo High School from Long Beach, creating exciting new opportunities for competition in boys football and girls flag football while renewing longstanding rivalries and strengthening connections among schools, families and communities.
