Tibby Elementary Named NCUST America's Best Schools Award 2025 Winner

Compton Unified School District is proud to celebrate Tibby Elementary School, which has been named one of only nine schools nationwide to receive the NCUST America’s Best Schools Award in 2025.
The honor was presented today in front of a packed room of enthusiastic Tibby scholars by Dr. Greg Ottinger, Executive Director of the National Center for Urban School Transformation (NCUST). He awarded the recognition to Principal Dr. Tajuana Cabaong and the entire Tibby school community, highlighting their dedication to excellence, equity, and student success.

This recognition is especially significant:
- In the 20-year history of the NCUST awards, fewer than 200 schools total (out of more than 100,000 public schools nationwide) have earned this distinction.
- Tibby’s selection as one of just nine schools honored in 2025 reflects the extraordinary work happening in Compton Unified classrooms.
- Even more remarkable, Compton Unified has two schools receiving this honor in the same year—a first in NCUST’s two-decade history. Tomorrow, Laurel Street Elementary will officially be recognized as an NCUST America’s Best Schools Award winner.

Founded in 2005, the National Center for Urban School Transformation works with districts across the country to ensure schools are places where all students achieve at high levels, develop a love of learning, and graduate prepared for college, careers, and community leadership.
