Compton Unified Showcases Excellence to National Education Leaders

Council of Urban Boards of Education (CUBE) Conference Tour Compton High School and Davis Middle School 
 

More than 150 school board members, superintendents, and school administrators from across the country visited Compton High School and Davis Middle School recently to see firsthand the innovative educational practices taking place in the Compton Unified School District. The visit was part of the Council of Urban Boards of Education (CUBE) Annual Conference, hosted in Los Angeles.

The day began at Compton High School, where guests were welcomed by CUSD Board President Micah Ali and Superintendent Dr. Darin Brawley. Visitors toured classrooms and programs including Emergency Medical Training, video game design, culinary arts, wood shop, audio production, band, and a live theater performance at the Dr. Dre Performing Arts Center.

At Davis Middle School, attendees explored a range of STEM-focused opportunities such as the Verizon Lab, Esports, drone technology, and also visited the Wellness Center and a hands-on cooking class.

Through these visits, education leaders gained a snapshot of the exceptional programs that contribute to CUSD’s success. These initiatives have helped drive historic student achievement, including an 8-point increase in English Language Arts and a 6.4-point increase in Mathematics—ranking Compton Unified number one in California among similar districts.

Organized by the National School Boards Association (NSBA), the CUBE conference empowers urban school board leaders by providing the knowledge and tools needed to be effective policymakers and strong advocates for public education.
