Compton Early College Welcomes Families to Lunch with Scholars

Media Release

The Community Schools project strengthened bonds between schools and families.

Compton Early College High School recently hosted a heartwarming event called Games, Goodies & Grands, where scholars welcomed their parents, grandparents, and “grand” loved ones to campus for an extended lunch filled with fun, food, and connection.

The gathering was part of the Community Schools project, a statewide initiative designed to strengthen the bonds between schools, families, and neighborhoods. By creating welcoming spaces for families on campus, Community Schools aim to ensure that scholars are supported not just academically, but socially and emotionally as well.

At Compton Early College, the event highlighted this mission perfectly. Families enjoyed lunch alongside their scholars, played games, and connected with teachers and staff in a joyful, relaxed setting. Music set the tone, laughter filled the air, and the campus came alive with the energy of community.

These moments are more than just fun—they are foundational to building a thriving school culture. When families feel connected to schools, scholars feel supported and encouraged. Events like Games, Goodies & Grands provide meaningful opportunities for parents and guardians to experience the school environment firsthand, fostering trust and open communication between home and school.

Compton Unified is proud to be part of the Community Schools movement, where education extends beyond the classroom to embrace the whole child and the entire community. By bringing families into the heart of the school day, we strengthen partnerships that uplift scholars and create lasting memories.

Compton Early College’s Games, Goodies & Grands was a shining example of what happens when schools and families come together—connection, joy, and community at its best.
