Parents welcomed at 21 elementary schools as district celebrates strong test score gains

Compton Unified School District’s 21 elementary schools opened their doors this week for Back to School Night, welcoming parents and families onto campuses to connect with teachers, principals, and school staff. Classrooms and hallways were filled with energy as families learned more about the exciting year ahead and the many opportunities available to scholars.

Back to School Night is a long-standing tradition that plays a vital role in strengthening the partnership between families and schools. By engaging directly with teachers and administrators, parents gain insight into the curriculum, classroom expectations, and school programs that will help guide their children’s learning. Strong family involvement has consistently proven to be a key factor in student success.

This year’s event also served as a moment to reflect on the district’s tremendous academic progress. Compton Unified recently achieved a historic 8-point increase in English Language Arts scores and a 6.4-point increase in Mathematics. These improvements mark one of the strongest gains in the state and underscore the district’s commitment to academic excellence.

As a result of these efforts, Compton Unified is now ranked number one among similar districts in California. This distinction highlights the dedication of teachers, staff, parents, and students who continue to push for excellence and achievement across all campuses.

Back to School Night was not only a chance to celebrate these historic gains but also a reminder of the important role families play in sustaining this momentum. With continued collaboration between schools and the community, Compton Unified is setting the stage for even greater student success in the years ahead.
