45 CUSD Scholars Explored Video Game Development Careers

Media Release

45 scholars from C-Tech (Compton Academy of Technology and Innovation) and Longfellow Elementary School stepped into the exciting world of 2K Sports Game Development, discovering the creativity, technology, and teamwork behind some of the world’s most popular sports games — including NBA 2K, WWE 2K, and PGA Tour 2K, among others.

During this immersive field trip in Anaheim, students learned that building a video game requires far more than just great ideas — it takes collaboration across multiple departments, each playing a vital role in bringing a digital world to life, thanks to Tiger Woods' TGR Foundation.

From game design and software engineering to art, animation, and sound design, scholars explored the wide range of skills needed to create dynamic and realistic gaming experiences. The writing and storytelling teams shared how they craft engaging narratives and player journeys, while the marketing and production departments explained how these games reach audiences around the globe.

This visit was a perfect extension of Compton Unified’s strong emphasis on STEM education, which begins in early grades and prepares students for future careers in science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics. By seeing how these disciplines come together in the world of game development, scholars were able to connect classroom learning to real-world innovation.

By the end of the day, students walked away inspired — realizing that their passion for gaming could evolve into a career in technology, design, or digital media.
