Media Release

USA Olympian Marcus Tupuola introduced sport and talked about determination.

Jefferson and Kennedy Elementary Schools recently welcomed USA Olympic Rugby star Marcus Tupuola — fresh from competing in the 2024 Paris Olympic Games — for an unforgettable morning of motivation and movement.

Speaking to scholars at both schools in separate assemblies arranged by the LA Sports Council, Tupuola shared his inspiring journey from growing up in Carson, California, to discovering rugby at age 13, playing at Carson High and Notre Dame College, and ultimately representing Team USA on the world’s biggest stage.

Throughout his talks, Tupuola emphasized the importance of perseverance, hard work, and self-belief, encouraging scholars to dream big and stay committed to their goals — no matter how far away they may seem.

As part of both assemblies, Tupuola joined scholars on the field for hands-on rugby demonstrations and games, showcasing the same energy and teamwork that have guided his athletic career. He also shared his excitement about the upcoming 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games, where he hopes to once again represent Team USA.

Jefferson and Kennedy Elementaries extend their gratitude to Marcus Tupuola for taking the time to inspire the next generation of champions.

Compton Unified School District is proud to celebrate moments like these that connect scholars to real-world role models and inspire pathways from STEM to sports and beyond.
