Media Release

Compton Early College High School recently welcomed actress, stuntwoman, filmmaker, and philanthropist Carrie Bernans for an inspiring visit that left a lasting impact on students and staff alike, as part of the Saving Our Daughters program.

Best known for her powerful performances in Black Panther, Wakanda Forever, Avengers: Endgame, NOPE, Emancipation, and X-Men: Dark Phoenix, Bernans met with about 60 Compton Early College scholars to share her experiences working in Hollywood and beyond.

During the visit, she spoke candidly about her path from humble beginnings to achieving success on the global stage. She offered advice on perseverance, leadership, and believing in one’s potential, while answering thoughtful student questions about acting, stunt work, and filmmaking.

Adding an exciting hands-on element, Bernans led students through basic boxing drills, drawing connections between physical discipline, mental focus, and confidence.

Her visit exemplified the power of storytelling, resilience, and mentorship—values at the heart of Compton Early College’s mission to prepare students for success in college, career, and life.

Carrie Bernans’ words and actions reminded scholars that greatness often begins with courage, hard work, and the decision to believe in yourself—no matter where you start.
