Compton Unified is 2025 Magna Award Grand Prize Winner
We are proud to announce that Compton Unified School District has been named a 2025 Magna Award Grand Prize Winner by the National School Boards Association (NSBA).
The Magna Awards recognize school districts and their leaders for innovative, out-of-the-box thinking to address district challenges. CUSD was recognized for its Compton Goes to College! Program, groundbreaking initiative designed to remove educational inequities and ensure every student has the support they need to graduate high school and access college opportunities, leading to a current 93% graduation rate and 88% college enrollment rate.
“The Magna Awards celebrate the incredible innovation and leadership of school districts that are finding creative solutions to complex challenges,” said Verjeana McCotter-Jacobs, NSBA Executive Director and CEO. “This year’s winners demonstrate the profound impact that visionary school boards and educators can have on their communities, from expanding mental health services to promoting college access and supporting students with autism. We are honored to showcase their outstanding work and hope they inspire others to think boldly in support of student success."
Members of the NSBA Board of Directors Awards Committee selected the winners from district submissions. Compton Unified received the Grand Prize among nationwide districts with 5,000 to 20,000 enrollments.
The 2025 Magna Awards will be formally presented at NSBA’s Annual Conference in Atlanta, on Sunday, April 6.
