Dominguez Senior David Espejel Awarded $50,000 Edison Scholarship
Dominguez High School senior David Espejel has been awarded a $50,000 Edison Scholarship from Edison International, recognizing his outstanding academic achievements and passion for innovation in clean energy. David is one of only 30 high school seniors selected for this prestigious award out of 640 applicants.
David’s journey is a testament to the strength of Compton Unified School District’s commitment to excellence in education. A proud product of Mayo Elementary School and Whaley Middle School, he has flourished academically and personally throughout his time in Compton Unified schools. With the unwavering support of his Dominguez High School counselors, David navigated the scholarship application process successfully and is now set to attend UCLA or UCI in the fall, where he will study electrical engineering.
His passion for clean energy and making a difference in underserved communities made his application stand out. David hopes to develop sustainable solutions for communities that cannot afford traditional energy resources, ensuring equitable access to power for all.
Reflecting on his achievement, David shared, "I'm very grateful that all the hard work I did paid off! Dedication and hard work is all that's needed. I really hope I can change this world with this!"
