Clinton and Jefferson Scholars Prep for Invention Convention

Media Release

Have you ever imagined a backpack with a built-in umbrella? Or a chair designed never to tip over? What about a robot that can tell if your fruit is ripe?

These were just a few of the creative and innovative ideas developed by scholars at Jefferson Elementary and Clinton Elementary as they prepared for the upcoming Southern California Invention Convention in Torrance in late March.

To help refine their ideas and ensure they were ready to impress at the big event, Compton Unified administrators recently met with these talented students to review their projects. District leaders provided valuable feedback, helping students think through their designs, improve their prototypes, and fine-tune their presentations.

This hands-on mentorship ensured that scholars not only showcase their creativity but also developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills that will serve them well in the future.

Our scholars’ enthusiasm for innovation is a testament to Compton Unified’s commitment to STEM education, which starts as early as Pre-K and continues through high school. With 90% of students participating in STEM programs and 51% pursuing careers in STEM fields after graduation, CUSD continues to foster a culture of innovation and excellence.

We wish all the scholars the best of luck heading to the convention. This is a fantastic opportunity to witness the next generation of inventors in action and celebrate their entrepreneurial spirit.
