CUSD Workforce Wednesday Highlights CTE Pathways

Compton Unified School District recently hosted a Workforce Wednesday breakfast to spotlight the district’s Career and Technical Education (CTE) pathways and celebrate its growing network of community and industry partnerships.

More than 40 attendees gathered for the morning event, which featured a welcome from CUSD Board Member Alma Taylor-Pleasant and Superintendent Dr. Darin Brawley. Rose Gonzalez, Senior Director of CTE/ROP & Partnerships, and Kalen Wright, Director of School & Community Partnerships, spoke about the district’s vision for expanding CTE opportunities and how companies and organizations can support students’ educational and career journeys.

Compton High School seniors Jordan Billberry and Marcus Schorea and Dominguez High School Junior Angelina Ramirez shared their inspiring CTE pathway experiences and their recent successes at the SkillsUSA State Competition.

The event also included a special appearance by tennis champion Sloane Stephens and Executive Director Dr. Sybil Smith, who discussed the impact of the Sloane Stephens Foundation’s partnership with Compton Unified.

Peter Baxter, President and Co-Founder of Slamdance, was recognized for his continued support of the district’s video production students and programs.

The breakfast was prepared and served by Dominguez High School’s Culinary Arts scholars, under the direction of Chef Sean Scott, showcasing yet another example of CTE in action.

Through various CTE programs, Compton Unified continues to empower students with hands-on learning experiences that build real-world skills and prepare them for success in college, careers, and beyond.
