Meet Calvin Austria, Compton Early College High School Class of 2025 graduate. Calvin Austria has achieved what many students only dream of: graduating from high school with not one, but two associate's degrees already in hand. The Compton Early College High School graduate completed his Intersegmental General Education Transfer Curriculum (IGETC) and is now set to pursue civil engineering at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona.
Austria's journey to academic success wasn't always traditional. Before enrolling at Compton Early College High School, he completed his coursework through online learning. The transition to campus life opened new doors for personal and academic growth that would shape his high school experience.
The shift from online education to in-person learning proved transformative for Austria. He quickly immersed himself in campus life, joining the Esports team and the Arts and Crafts Club. His leadership abilities emerged as he took on the role of Robotics Team Captain, demonstrating the kind of technical aptitude that would later influence his college major choice.
Austria's academic focus was shaped by his family, particularly his father, who works as a civil engineer. This connection to the engineering field helped guide his career aspirations and academic choices. The young graduate maintained his focus through a daily discipline of journaling, taking time each day to reflect on his experiences and progress.
