Compton High School Counselor Quintero Receives Prestigious Award

Media Release

Compton High School Counselor Gabriela Quintero was recently honored with the Steve Hankins New High School Counselor Award at this year’s Western Association for College Admission Counseling (WACAC) Annual Conference held in Las Vegas.

The Steve Hankins Award recognizes outstanding secondary school counselors with five or fewer years of experience who demonstrate a strong commitment to student success and active involvement in the college admissions community. Named after Steve Hankins, a pioneering figure in college admissions counseling, the award celebrates those who exemplify his spirit of mentorship, inclusion, and service.

Since joining Compton High School, Gabriela has shown exceptional dedication to guiding students on their college journeys while actively contributing to WACAC through committee work and volunteering at events. Her passion for supporting students and fostering a collaborative community among counselors has made a significant impact in a relatively short time.

Gabriela’s achievement reflects the high standards of excellence we hold at Compton High School and the broader Compton Unified School District. We are incredibly proud to have her as part of our team, helping pave the way for future scholars to achieve their dreams.

Please congratulate Gabriela Quintero on this well-deserved recognition!
