Compton Success Profiles: Jaiden Zaragoza, Dominguez High School

Media Release

Jaiden Zaragoza, a proud graduate of Dominguez High School’s Class of 2025, is on his way to Cal State Fullerton this fall, where he will major in Kinesiology. His journey through Compton Unified is one of growth, determination, and perseverance.

Jaiden’s story began at Kelly Elementary, where he attended from kindergarten through eighth grade. He then transitioned to Dominguez High School, where he became a standout student and athlete. A dedicated member of the Dominguez baseball team all four years, Jaiden served as team captain during his senior year.

His academic journey, however, wasn't always smooth. In sixth grade, Jaiden found himself struggling in school due to distractions like video games. Recognizing the need for change, he made the decision to refocus on his education. With strong support and encouragement from his mother, he turned his grades around and began to take his academic future seriously.

At Dominguez, Jaiden joined AVID, a college-readiness program that helped him understand the steps he needed to take to prepare for higher education. The program introduced him to dual enrollment opportunities, and he began taking college courses the summer after his junior year. By the time he graduated, Jaiden had earned 27 college credits—enough to begin his college journey as a sophomore.

Looking back, Jaiden says he wishes he had started dual enrollment in ninth grade. With an earlier start, he believes he could have graduated from Dominguez with his associate degree.

Jaiden Zaragoza exemplifies the spirit of success within Compton Unified. His story is a powerful reminder of how focus, support, and opportunity can shape a promising future.
