Compton Success Profiles: Angel Bautista, Centennial High School

Media Release

Angel Bautista, a proud member of the Centennial High School Class of 2025, is headed to UCLA this fall, where he will major in Political Science. His ultimate goal is to become an immigration attorney—a dream deeply rooted in his family’s story.

Both of Angel’s parents are immigrants and are deaf. Growing up, he learned American Sign Language along with English and Spanish so he could help translate and support them. Balancing the responsibilities of translating for his parents while managing schoolwork presented many challenges, but it also shaped his resilience, compassion, and determination.

Angel credits his mother as his greatest inspiration. He’s driven by the desire to provide her with a comfortable life and to honor the sacrifices she has made for their family.

A lifelong student of the Compton Unified School District, Angel attended Jefferson Elementary School from kindergarten through 8th grade before continuing on to Centennial High School. At Centennial, he found a strong support system in his teachers and counselors, built lasting friendships, and took part in meaningful opportunities such as college tours to Northern California and access to scholarships.

Angel Bautista is a shining example of the strength, heart, and potential found in Compton Unified scholars.
