Laurel Street Elementary Named 2025 New School To Watch

Media Release

Compton Unified School District is proud to announce that Laurel Street Elementary School has been recognized as a 2025 New School to Watch by the California League of Middle Schools (CLMS). This prestigious honor is awarded to middle-grade schools that demonstrate academic excellence, strong student support, and innovative teaching practices.

Laurel Street Elementary is among only 46 California schools recognized this year through the California Schools to Watch program, part of a national network of over 700 schools across 18 states. Schools that receive this designation undergo a rigorous evaluation process, including an application review and an on-site validation visit by middle-grades experts.

This recognition highlights the dedication of Laurel Street Elementary’s educators, students, and families in fostering a learning environment that prepares students for future success. The school will be officially recognized as a California School to Watch in March and a National School to Watch in June.

Compton Unified continues to set the standard for excellence in education, and this achievement reflects the district’s commitment to innovation and student growth.
