50 CUSD High School Scholars Attended LA Black College Expo
On Saturday, more than 50 Centennial, Compton, Compton Early College, and Dominguez High School scholars, including many band, dance, and drill team members, attended the Los Angeles Black College Expo and the highly anticipated Honda Battle of the Bands. The event offered students valuable exposure to more than 100 Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) and their vibrant culture.
During the event, students had the opportunity to meet with HBCU representatives, ask questions, and explore academic programs. Some students, who had already been accepted to HBCUs, were finalizing their enrollment decisions.
Event Highlights:
Students experienced electrifying performances at the Honda Battle of the Bands, showcasing six HBCU bands from the likes of Hampton University, Alabama A&M University, Alabama State University, North Carolina A&T State University, and others.
The event reinforced the legacy, pride, and cultural connection of HBCUs.
Brooklyn Adams from Compton Early College received a $1,000 scholarship.
Erin Jackson from Centennial High School was accepted on the spot to Claflin University after submitting her transcripts.
The Black College Expo continues to be a vital resource for students exploring college options and connecting with institutions that celebrate Black Excellence.
