Alma's Boutique Opens at Dominguez High School

Media Release

Compton Unified School District Board of Trustees Member Alma Taylor-Pleasant officially opened Alma’s Boutique—a game-changing initiative giving Dominguez scholars access to clothing and accessories by earning Alma’s Bucks.

Launched at the school on Valentine’s Day, this boutique is more than fashion—it’s about confidence, dignity, and belonging. This incredible clothing store allows students to “purchase” brand-new jackets, shirts, pants, shoes, and accessories using Alma’s Bucks, earned from their principal or teachers.

“We have to feed our kids the right food in order for them to think, in order for them to do good, in order for them to be successful,” she said. “And if we're feeding their brain and they're doing good, they want to look good. And when you put those three things together, then we have a success story. And if a kid dresses good and looks good, they feel good.”

She also talked about what’s next: “My bigger plan is to open these boutiques at all the Compton Unified High Schools in the future,” she said. “Next, we’re going to do Compton High School. I think it's really needed in all the schools because there are so many kids who still need help, need winter coats, and need good suits for job interviews.”

Huge shoutout to Alma for making this vision a reality!
