50 Emerson and Longfellow Scholars Gain Money Skills at JA Finance Park
Recently, 50 scholars from Emerson and Longfellow participated in the JA Finance Park Budget Challenge, an immersive financial literacy experience designed to help students understand how money decisions impact everyday life.

Through a realistic simulation, scholars were challenged to manage income, pay bills, budget for housing and transportation, and make thoughtful financial choices based on real-world scenarios.

Guided by dedicated financial advisor volunteers, students worked through the complexities of balancing a budget while learning the importance of responsible decision-making. The hands-on experience allowed scholars to see firsthand how financial planning, prioritization, and problem-solving play a critical role in long-term success.

At Compton Unified School District, preparing students goes beyond academic achievement and college readiness. Experiences like JA Finance Park reflect the district’s commitment to equipping scholars with practical life skills that support independence, confidence, and informed decision-making well beyond the classroom.

By providing real-world learning opportunities, Compton Unified ensures students are not only prepared for college and careers, but also for the financial responsibilities and challenges they will face throughout their lives.
