100 CUSD Dual Immersion 5th Graders Experience Inspiring Theater Day

Media Release

Nearly 100 Compton Unified School District fifth-grade Dual Immersion scholars from Dickison, Emerson, and Kennedy Elementary Schools recently visited the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts to watch the stage production of Stand and Deliver.

Adapted from the Oscar-nominated film, the play tells the true and uplifting story of Jaime Escalante, the renowned East Los Angeles educator who motivated his students to overcome challenges, pursue excellence, and believe in their own potential.

Following the performance, students had the unique opportunity to meet and speak with members of the cast, making the experience even more memorable.

It was an inspiring day that not only brought literature and history to life, but also encouraged scholars to envision the possibilities within their own educational journeys.
