Carver, Jefferson, Kennedy, McKinley, and Rosecrans Students Enjoyed Various Activities

More than 500 Compton Unified scholars gathered at Caldwell Elementary to celebrate Computer Science Week with a full day of hands-on exploration, creativity, and learning. Scholars from Carver, Jefferson, Kennedy, McKinley, and Rosecrans participated in engaging activities designed to spark interest in computer science and expose them to real-world applications in technology.

Throughout the day, scholars experienced coding and digital design, robot driving challenges, game development stations, and several additional activities highlighting core concepts in computer science. Many of the sessions were led by students from Dominguez High School, Compton Early College, Whaley Middle School, and Laurel Street Elementary, demonstrating the strength of peer-to-peer learning across the district.

The event also brought together several of Compton Unified’s valued partners, including Verizon, Sphero, Hacker Fund, 9 Dots, Boeing’s Fly Compton Design Studio, LEGO, Two Bit Circus, and The Hidden Genius Project. Each partner hosted interactive booths and learning stations that allowed scholars to build skills, ask questions, and see how computer science connects to future careers.

Compton Unified’s award-winning STEM education program continues to prioritize access, innovation, and opportunity. By providing early exposure to computer science and engineering pathways, the district is preparing scholars with the critical skills necessary for the careers of tomorrow.
