Compton Success Profiles: Samantha Genovez, Dominguez High School

Media Release

Samantha Genovez, a proud graduate of the Dominguez High School Class of 2025, is on her way to Mount Saint Mary’s College this fall, where she will major in Biology. Her goal is to become a cardiologist—an aspiration fueled by determination, resilience, and the strong foundation she built in Compton Unified School District.

Samantha began her academic journey at Robert F. Kennedy Elementary School, where she attended from kindergarten through 8th grade. She then transitioned to Dominguez High School, where she grew academically and personally. Like many students, Samantha faced challenges early in her high school experience, including personal obstacles and struggles with procrastination. However, she made the decision to focus on her goals and put in the effort needed to succeed. By the end of high school, she had raised her GPA to an impressive 4.0.

Samantha credits the dual enrollment and college courses offered at Dominguez for helping her understand what to expect in college. These experiences gave her a head start in higher education and the confidence to pursue a rigorous field like medicine. She also shared how much she valued the sense of community at Dominguez and the support she received from the school’s College Center.

“I value my education because it’s something no one can take away from you,” Samantha said.

Samantha Genovez exemplifies the spirit of Compton Unified—resilient, ambitious, and ready to make a difference in the world. Her journey is a reminder of the power of education and the importance of support systems that help students thrive.
