Roosevelt Scholars Making Tamales for Hispanic Heritage Month
In celebration of Hispanic Heritage Month, Mrs. Martha Mariscal’s class at Roosevelt Elementary School had a special hands-on tamale-making activity!
Mrs. Mariscal, who has been with CUSD for more than 32 years, does a cooking activity with her class each month. This month, she shared her love for this family tradition with her students.
The lesson started with a book introducing the kids to tamales, followed by mixing and preparing the tamales. The students got to fold the tamales themselves before enjoying their tasty creations. One student, who normally doesn’t each much, even asked for seconds!
For Mrs. Mariscal, the tamale-making isn’t just about food — it’s about sharing memories, traditions, and building a sense of community.
