45 Centennial, Compton, & Dominguez Scholars Attend UCLA Mini Med School

Media Release

45 CUSD scholars attended a Mini Med School presented by the American Medical Women’s Association at David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA to learn more about attending medical school and different jobs in the medical profession. While at UCLA, they toured the campus and visited the David Geffen School of Medicine.

The scholars from Centennial, Compton, and Dominguez High School are currently enrolled in CUSD’s Emergency Medical Response Pathways at their high schools and all are interested in pursuing careers in the medical field.

As part of the Mini Med School, scholars attended a Healthcare Panel and heard more about each person’s job in healthcare including from an OBGYN Doctor, Pharmacist, and Public Health Advocate. Two of the speakers were from Compton and talked about their journey to healthcare.

In addition, the scholars also participated in hand’s on activities including conducting an ultrasound, learning CPR, and suturing a wound.

The trip was an incredible experience for CUSD scholars to learn first-hand about the medical field and different opportunities in it.
