Marine Biologist Visits Davis Middle School
What does a Marine Biologist do? Davis Middle School scholars found out recently. Nichole Gatten, a Marine Biologist from the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, visited the school and Mr. Gonzalez’s class, and talked to the scholars about her job and career.
At the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium, Ms. Gatten works with three different endangered species including the white abalone, trying to keep them alive and thriving in the local coastal ecosystem.
During her talk with the scholars, she discussed some of the environmental issues concerning sustainability and our coastlines and piers. Mr. Gonzalez’s class is currently working on several ocean-related projects, such as building submarines, and took the opportunity to ask Ms. Gatten relevant questions.
She also encouraged scholars to get involved in the Cabrillo Marine Aquarium Young Scientists Program, that provides students the opportunity to explore their passion for marine science with guidance from professional marine researchers.
