Anderson, Kelly, and Tibby Scholars Take BSA JA Finance Park Trip

Media Release

Thirty-three Anderson, Kelly, and Tibby Elementary scholars recently attended the JA Finance Park and experienced an engaging financial literacy experience organized by the CUSD Black Student Achievement Department. This immersive trip was designed to provide students with essential money management skills through interactive, hands-on activities.

A highlight of the visit was when students were partnered with financial advisors and assigned adult profiles that included FICO scores, job descriptions, salaries, and monthly expenses. Through this role-playing exercise, students created monthly budgets, paid bills, and explored the process of securing home and car loans based on their FICO scores.

This experience helped students grasp the importance of maintaining good credit and understand how their financial decisions can impact their quality of life. They learned about the complexities of financial management, including interest rates and the necessity of emergency savings.

This educational outing aligns with the Black Student Achievement Department’s mission to provide diverse opportunities that prepare students for college, careers, and life. It reinforced the significance of financial literacy as a foundation for lifelong independence and motivated students to plan confidently for their futures.

The event was made possible with the generous support of partners, including Toyota, Delta Sky Club, Chick-fil-A, Bank of America, Vans, Cathay Bank, Los Angeles Department of Water and Power, State Farm and more.
