Helpful Honda Guys Surprise Davis Teacher with $5000 Donation
You’ve probably heard of The Helpful Honda Guys through a TV or radio commercial, doing their random acts of helpfulness, helping people in need. As part of their Annual Helpful Honda Teacher Appreciation Awards, The Helpful Honda Guys surprised Davis Middle School’s Mr. Jose Gonzalez with $5,000 worth of school supplies. Mr. Gonzalez was one of just five teachers in SoCal to receive this honor!
Davis Principal Carol Hsini nominated Mr. Gonzalez to receive the award. He has been an educator in Compton Unified School District for the past 23 years. One of his greatest passions is working with Compton students. He admires their resilience and enthusiasm for learning. Mr. Gonzalez has created the school’s Technology Team, Robotics Team, Parent cooking Show, and STEAM program.
He is a firm believer in Project Based Learning where students work on “Real World” issues in the classroom. He has strived to create a student-centered classroom where students are encouraged to bring their ideas to the classroom as they work collaboratively to find solutions. He also teaches the importance of sustainable environments and using technology as a voice for change in the community.
His students have won numerous awards. Most recently, they were among the 19 countries who were given the Ciena World Challenge Award.
Thank you, SoCal Honda Dealers and thank you, Mr. Gonzalez!
