CUSD Names Principals of the Year, Honors More Than 120 Employees, Retirees

Compton Unified School District held its 2023/24 Employee Recognition Ceremony recently, honoring more than 120 Site/Department Employees of the Year; Awards for 10, 20, 30, 40, and 50 Years of Service; and recognizing Retirees, in a rolling day-long event at Enterprise Middle School. In addition, it announced the Elementary, Middle School, and High School Principals of the Year, Administrator of the Year, Counselor of the Year, and several others.

Centennial High School’s Dr. Bobby Walker, Laurel Street Elementary School’s Rachel Collins, and Whaley Middle School’s Ronald Keaton.

For the 2023/24 school year, Laurel Street Elementary School’s Rachel Collins was recognized as the Elementary School Principal of the Year, Whaley Middle School’s Ronald Keaton was honored as the Middle School Principal of the Year, and Centennial High School’s Dr. Bobby Walker was named High School Principal of the Year.

The Employee Recognition Ceremony was held in four different groups throughout the day, bringing in employees from eight or nine schools and various departments such as the Superintendent’s Office, Pupil Services, and Educational Department, to be recognized in the intimate affair.

CUSD Board Vice President Satra Zurita, Board Member Dr. Ayanna Davis, and Superintendent Dr. Darin Brawley each thanked the staff for their dedication and service. Dr. Brawley highlighted the vast improvements that have happened at Compton Unified over the last dozen years, and thanked each employee for their contribution to making Compton Unified one of the top Districts in the area.
