55 CUSD Scholars Complete 5-Week Youth Mental Health Academy Internship
55 CUSD scholars completed a five-week internship at the Child Mind Institute’s Youth Mental Health Academy at Centennial High School last week. The scholars presented their final Capstone projects to wrap up the summer coursework. As part of the program, scholars received $2000 and a laptop.
During the coming school year, scholars will be matched with mentors and participate in virtual workshops. They will then continue with the program next summer and serve as paid interns at local clinics and hospitals.
The Child Mind Institute’s Youth Mental Health Academy is a community-based, career development program - including paid internships, mentorship, project-based learning, and student support - for rising high school juniors and seniors.
It gives students from traditionally underserved communities, including BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ teens, an opportunity to gain valuable knowledge and experience in mental health science, practice, or communications by working with professionals from organizations doing work in those areas. By providing mentorship and training to high school students in underserved communities, it aims to inspire and cultivate tomorrow’s mental health leaders.
