Compton Success Profiles: Zarrya Oliver, Dominguez High School
Meet Zarrya Oliver, Dominguez High School Class of 2024 graduate. She will be going U.C. Davis in the fall, majoring in Psychology, because she wants to better understand people and the way people think. After college, she wants to become a social worker and therapist.
Zarrya grew up in Compton and went to Mayo Elementary School, Roosevelt Middle School, then finished at Dominguez High School.
She said that she didn’t choose Dominguez, Dominguez chose her. Zarrya added that best part of being at Dominguez was the people. “They made it really fun and easy to learn,” she said. “My teachers helped me so much.”
Her biggest challenge in her school years was spending her 9th grade at home during Covid. But when she returned to Dominguez in person, her counselors and teachers really helped her out. “They told me it was ok that I was struggling, but don’t always let yourself struggle. You’ve got to be the one to pick yourself up.”
