Compton Success Profiles: Jordan Arellano, Centennial High School

Meet Jordan Arellano, Centennial High School Class of 2024 graduate. He will be going to UCLA in the fall, majoring in Computer Science.

His interest in computers started when he was a child, doing things like helping his mother connect her phone to the internet. Then, he took a coding class in his elementary school and found it interesting. He decided he wanted to pursue a career in computers after high school.

However, Jordan didn’t think he was going to college after high school. But after meeting a college mentor, he got involved in the Centennial College Center and visited a number of college campuses to see what they were like. He started visualizing himself at college and decided he should go.

To help with his college tuition, Jordan applied for and was chosen as an Edison Scholar, earning a $50,000 scholarship. He values his education because he says it’s something you need to get a good job and do good in life.
