CUSD BSA Holds Summer Mentorship & Leadership Workshops at 6 Schools
Summer school is in session across Compton Unified School District. Scholars are taking a variety of classes, participating in various activities, and are getting ahead for next school year.
As part of summer school, Compton Unified’s Black Student Achievement Department offered Summer Mentorship & Leadership Workshops for African American boys and girls in 6th, 7th, and 8th grades at six of its schools including Bunche MS, Davis, Emerson, Kelly, Tibby, and Whaley.
Miguel Taylor, CUSD Administrator, Office of Black Student Achievement, led the workshops designed to spark students' interest in attending college, provide them with skills they need to be successful, expose them to a range of careers, begin goal setting, build self-esteem, and comradery.
The groups met both in the classroom and outside for discussions, fun outdoor activities, and valuable interactions, leaving scholars better prepared for their next step in their education.
