50 Centennial and Compton HS Scholars Attend Harley-Davidson Back 2 School Workshop
More than 50 Compton High School and Centennial High School Scholars recently attended the 1903 Harley Drew Back 2 School Workshop, in collaboration with California Harley-Davidson in Harbor City, California.
The students toured the Harley-Davidson dealership, learned about different models, and heard about the different job opportunities within a dealership, from sales and marketing, to repair and maintenance.
“We want to inspire and motivate the youth on the rich history of Harley-Davidson,” said “Harley” Drew Thompson, Harley-Davidson Assistant Sales Manager, who helped organize the event. “I grew up in Compton and try to be a mentor and inspire students with the passion I have for Harley. As part of the workshop, we taught them about custom building and designing the motorcycles. We gave them a tour of our parts and service departments and gave them an opportunity to wrench on a motorcycle.”
The students enjoyed learning more about what goes into the Harley business. “My favorite part was talking to the people who make the motorcycles and see how they made them from scratch,” said Heidy, a Centennial High School junior.
The in-person and hand’s on event impacted the students’ impressions of the company. “This is a fun way for the kids to learn all the job and career opportunities that Harley has to offer,” added Juan Reynoso, Compton High School Teacher.
“I grew up around bikes,” said Corey, a Centennial High School 9th grader. “Seeing all these bikes boosted my interest in bikes. I can see what could buy or build myself. This inspired me to reach my dream.”
