The scholars were divided into three divisions, including Primary Division (Grades 2 & 3), Junior Division (Grades 4 & 5), and the Senior Division (Grades 6, 7, & 8). To qualify for the District Spelling Bee, scholars first had to win their own school competitions.

For the CUSD Spelling Bee, the stakes were high as nearly 50 students competed in each division, vying for the coveted District championship. Round after round, students bravely approached the judges and verbally spelled out words called out to them. In the single elimination competition, those who misspelled words were dropped from the competition. Those who spelled their words correctly, moved on to the next round.
