Davis Middle School Presented at ISTE Conference in Denver

Davis Middle School teachers and scholars recently presented at the ISTE Live 24 Conference in Denver, Colorado, one of the largest Ed Tech Conferences in North America. The team was invited to talk about Project Based Learning (PBL) and its impact in the 21st Century Classroom.

As part of the presentation, the Davis team explored the captivating fusion of STEAM and Project-Based Learning in the middle school environment, emphasizing the engagement, collaboration, and innovation it fosters. The presentation used real-world examples that showcased the benefits of creating a student-centered, risk-free classroom environment that encourages experimentation and innovation.

Jose Gonzalez, Davis’ 21st Century learning Specialist/VILs Coach, spoke about utilizing Project Based Learning in his teaching and how it creates innovation in the classroom. Then the Davis scholars presented their projects demonstrating PBL in action and told the audience how to use the applications/technology that they utilized to build their projects.

Mateo Smith discussed his 8th Grade Project: a sustainable home that uses renewable energy.

Sixth graders Damion Herd and Brando Quiroz presented an EV powered Semi-Truck that has a mobile aquaponics system to feed the world.

Eighth grader Thuy Knighten showed off her project - a dress that contains wearable technology.

In addition, students shared their success with the Flipped Classroom Model, Student-Centered Learning, and 1:1 Technology Integration.
