Compton Unified School District held a Prom Princess Preparation Party for 100 high school students to help them prepare for their upcoming proms.

Scholars from Centennial, Compton, Compton Early College, and Dominguez were treated to free prom dresses, shoes, purses, shawls, make up, and accessories – provided by Assistance League of Los Angeles. The Prom Princess Preparation Party was hosted by CUSD Board Member Satra Zurita and was a wonderful opportunity for students to get everything they needed the upcoming big night out.

“This is our third year and it’s even bigger and better than the first two years,” said Board Member Zurita. “We just want to make sure these girls have a great opportunity to go to prom, and have a great experience when they get there.”

“We want them to feel great about themselves and confident when they get there,” she continued. “So, it was really important to me that we do this type of event for our students. I want to thank the Assistance League of Los Angeles for the help with this.”

The event even turned into an impromptu fashion show as scholars tried on and modeled different dresses, looking for the perfect fit.

“The girls are happy,” said Zurita. “You can look at their faces. They’re modeling, they’re learning how to pose. It’s just a great day in Compton.”
