8 CUSD Scholars Receive Charles Drew University Summer Internships
Charles Drew University recently awarded eight internships to CUSD scholars from Centennial, Compton Early College, and Dominguez High Schools. Compton Unified’s Department of Black Student Achievement partnered with Charles Drew University to help promote their paid student summer internship openings and helped encourage scholars from CUSD schools secure these incredible opportunities.
Five students received the Public Health Professions Pathways Program (PHPP) Internship. The PHPP Program is a holistic six-week internship that supports rising 11th and 12th grade high school students pursuing health professions contributing to a diverse public health workforce. Centennial’s Siler Doss; Compton Early College’s Ashlee Jimena Pacheco, Marco A Martinez, and Cassandra Dillon; and Dominguez’s Hailey Holloway were accepted into the program and will receive a Summer Stipend of $3,500 as part of the internship.
Two scholars, Centennial’s Lynijah McKnight and Dominguez’s Samantha Genovez, were accepted into the Project STRIDE (Students Training in Research Involving Disparity Elimination) Program, and will receive a $2,000 stipend for their summer Internship. This 10-week paid summer research program will expose and engage students in clinical research.
Centennial’s Samaria Bailey received an ExStRM Program Internship. In the ExSTRM (Exposing Students to Regenerative Medicine) Internship, trainees will engage in a hands-on summer research program and will receive a $3,000 stipend.
