Compton Success Profiles: Jordan Borthwell's Basketball Passion
Media Release
Meet Jordan Borthwell, Dominguez High School Class of 2023 graduate. He’s attending California State University Dominguez Hills, majoring in Kinesiology. “I’ve always liked sports and I want to be a fitness director,” he explains.
He was a starter for the Dominguez basketball team. “I’ve been playing basketball my whole life,” he says. “The ball was put in my hand at a very young age and I’ve always had a love for it – playing, watching, even talking about it.”
Jordan’s been attending Compton Unified schools since kindergarten, attending Longfellow, McKinley, Vanguard, Enterprise Middle School, and Compton High School. Then he transferred to Dominguez High School.
One of his major challenges growing up was he didn’t really like school, but he realized he needed an education for his future and to provide for himself and his future family. Along the way, Jordan received support from his parents, as well as his McKinley Principal Dr. Moon, and Mrs. Bond.
He says the great things about Compton Schools are that the community looks out for each other, builds students up, and encourages them stay on the path to success.
Jordan added the best part of being in high school was spending time with his friends, creating lasting memories.
He values his education because he understands that it’ll help him in the long run become an adult, it’ll open doors, and allow him to create connections that he’ll have for the rest of his life.
Jordan is another Compton Success Story.
