Emerson's Cycling Club Enjoys CicLAvia's Heart of LA
Media Release
Have you ever wanted to bike through downtown Los Angeles without all the cars and traffic? Emerson's Cycling Club participated in the recent CicLAvia event Heart of LA, biking through downtown Los Angeles without worrying about cars or motorized traffic.
The 18 students consisting of first to eighth graders experienced the rare opportunity to enjoy the heart of Los Angeles on a 7.8-mile route with car-free open streets connecting the Arts District, Boyle Heights, Chinatown, Historic Core, Little Tokyo, and South Park.
Inspired by Bogotá’s weekly Ciclovía, CicLAvia temporarily closes streets in a Los Angeles area to car traffic and opens them to Angelenos to use as a public park.
Free for all, CicLAvia connects communities to each other across an expansive city, creating a safe place to bike, walk, skate, roll, and dance through Los Angeles County.
The program offers students numerous benefits, including the opportunity to engage in physical activity and promote wellness. It encourages social and emotional healing by fostering a sense of community and connection.
Additionally, CicLAvia's architecture tours of Los Angeles on bike provides an educational and enriching experience, all while supporting these endeavors through partnerships with organizations like the Bahati Foundation.
The next CicLAvia will take place in South LA on Sunday, December 3, along the streets connecting Leimert Park and Historic South Central allowing people of all ages to jog, ride, bike, skate, run, walk, skateboard, spectate, and enjoy the route however they want.
