CUSD High Schools Maximize College Awareness Month
Media Release
October is College Awareness Month. All CUSD high schools are engaging students with activities prepping them for college admissions. This week culminates on Friday with a large College Fair at Cal State University, Dominguez Hills. All four Compton Unified High Schools will be sending students to learn more about the many attending universities.
In fact, Compton Unified is committed to ensuring that all students graduate college- and career-ready. Compton Unified offers more than 63 Advanced Placement and College Courses. Last year, 2,200 Advanced Placement (AP) and 3,600 College courses were taken by Compton scholars, and Compton Unified provides a variety of college support readiness programs that include: Upward Bound, Cal Soap, ETS, USC, Gear Up, EAOP, and CTE pathways.
Starting with the Class of 2024, all students will be required to complete the A-G requirements required to meet university college preparatory admission requirements.
The results of all this work is paying off: Did you know that 85% of Compton Unified students were admitted to college? In addition, 44% of CUSD students are admitted to California State Universities. That’s a higher rate than the local school districts. Plus, almost 15% of CUSD students were admitted to UC Universities, higher than surrounding school districts.
Watch for more College Awareness Month activities taking place the whole month of October across the Compton Unified School District.
