At Compton Early College High School, 100% of its seniors took at least one AP exam during high school, nearly half of all seniors scored a 3 or higher on at least one AP exam, and 82% of seniors took five or more AP exams!

“We’re thrilled to earn the AP School Honor Roll Gold recognition,” said Dr. Pamela Maddox, Principal. “Our goal is to provide our students with the necessary education to attend our nation’s finest educational institutions. Being recognized by the AP School Honor Roll shows that we’re on the way to achieving that goal.”

Schools can earn the Honor Roll recognition annually based on their ability to increase their school’s college-going culture, to provide opportunities for students to earn college credit, and maximizing college readiness. The AP School Honor Roll offers four levels of distinction: Bronze, Silver, Gold and Platinum.

College Board’s Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) enables students to pursue college-level studies—with the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both—while still in high school. Through AP courses in 38 subjects, each culminating in a challenging exam, students learn to think critically, construct solid arguments, and see many sides of an issue—skills that prepare them for college and beyond.

Taking AP courses demonstrates to college admissions officers that students have sought the most challenging curriculum available to them. Research shows that students who take AP courses and exams are more likely to attend college and graduate on time. It also indicates that students who score a 3 or higher on an AP Exam typically experience greater academic success in college and are more likely to earn a college degree than non-AP students.

The students who enter four-year colleges with credit from the AP accelerate their path to graduation and build confidence for college success. And even for those who don’t earn college credit, AP coursework provides early exposure to college-level work and contributes to a college-going school culture.
