Centennial High School Honors Notable Alumni Musicians

Centennial High School recently honored several of its alumni who went on to become notable musicians, including Platinum-selling rapper and producer DJ Quik, rap duo 2nd II None, and rapper Hi-C. As part of Centennial’s 70th Anniversary and its 2023 Homecoming Pep Rally, the alumni were recognized in front of the cheering crowd in the school’s gym, and even performed for a few minutes each. In addition to the acknowledgement at the pep rally, the three received plaques on Centennial’s Wall of Fame.

DJ Quik (David Marvin Blake) is known for his production in the G-funk style of West Coast hip-hop. He attended Centennial High School from 1986 - 1989. DJ Quik is widely considered one of the most influential producers in West Coast rap history. He has collaborated with other notable artists such as Snoop Dogg, Tupac, Chingy, and Shaquille O'Neal, among others. His debut album, Quik is the Name, was certified Platinum. He also had several Gold records. In 2001, he was nominated for a Grammy for Best Rap Performance by a Duo or Group.

Also honored by the school was the rap duo 2nd II None, consisting of cousins KK (Kelton McDonald, who attended Centennial from 1986 to 1989) and Gansta D (Deon Barnett, who went to Centennial from 1987 to 1989). Their career started in 1990 with the release of The Red Tape. In 1999, they released their most popular song, Up ‘n da Club.

Finally, rapper Hi-C (Crawford Wilkerson) was also honored with the others. Wilkerson attended Centennial from 1986 to 89, and is known for his collaborations with TONY A. DA WIZARD, DJ Quik, AMG, Cartis Bunny, and 2nd II None.
